Since the majority of my driving is on the highway and city streets, this was the most reasonable choice for me. When shopping for my new set of tires I also wanted an all-terrain tire vs. The tires that carry the mountain snowflake designation are tested to either meet or exceed harsh winter conditions, more so than that of a regular M+T tire. One of my buying points for the tires was the mountain snowflake designation. I decided to go out and look for a new set of tires that could go through the 80-mile trip with very little effort and reassurance that I could make it through inclement weather also. This provided a very good test of how the tires would be for the season. I have to drive up a very steep grade to get to my work. I came to this conclusion after my 80-mile trip through the wet snow/slush while freeway driving. I quickly came to the realization that these stock Bridgestone tires must barely meet the “All-Terrain Standards”. The tires that came on my 2019 SR5 model were Bridgestone Dueler H/T 684 II All-Season tires. These tires can pass through the chain controls without having to be out in the cold chaining the vehicle, myself. When purchasing my 4Runner, I wanted to ensure that I wouldn’t have to chain up to go over the pass during the storm. And, thus, triggering the first chain control scenario of the winter season. ![]() So when I purchased my 4Runner, it was right before a large storm that put down a couple inches of wet snow in the mountain passes. I needed a 4×4 since I drive from Donner Pass, CA, back to Reno, NV, 4 days a week. And I found myself in an interesting situation that most people will probably not experience. I have a round-trip 80-mile commute to work. That aside (as I was aware of the issue being common), the GG AT2's are a great tyre! They've now got 45,000km on them and I think I'll be replacing them at around 60,000km given how they are wearing now.Introducing the new General Grabber ATX all-terrain tires – An Overview and Review on the 5th Gen 4Runner I've replaced every steering component and had many alignments to try and cure it without success, so it can be a handful to drive (compared to my previous Range Rover of same model with 16" wheels and BFG KM2 tyres). I should start by saying that this model Range Rover seems to dislike 18" wheels (even factory wheels which I'm running) as they tend to "tramline" - it's well documented. Having purchased the vehicle with these tyres and 20,000kms on them at the time, I can't comment from new, but I can comment on what I've experienced in the 25,000km I've put on them. I've got the General Grabber AT2 in a 255/60/18 on my 2001 Range Rover P38. ![]() Overall I am very pleased with these and would fit them again for replacement. I have noticed that if you have less than 36 psi in them they lack initial turn into corners I run 40 psi front and 42 psi rear all the time unless off-road. Only one thing I have noticed is that they can pick up some gravel in their treads but since I cannot compare this to another tyre I cannot say more or less than another brand. So i purchased these while every one else was telling me to buy a Cooper or BFG, well they are quiet like really quiet, grip well wet and dry, I have had them in Mud where they worked surprisingly well and kept up with people with muddies, in the sand Dropped them down to 16 psi fr 18 psi rear they worked great noticed that when they did get coated in wet sand you have to spin them initially to flick off sand and they grip again while others could not shake off the sand so I guess they are somewhat self cleaning, in rocky/gravel tracks they are fine and in fact did not drop pressure while everyone else did as I did not slip. Read more tyres than Oz and therefore more data and one tyre that kept coming up trumps overall and with the one consistent review of quiet and huge mileage was the General AT2. My 120 Prado had Pirelli Scorpions ATR front and Bridgestones AT 697 Rear when I brought it, so was in a unique spot of being able to swap tyres from front to back to try them, Bridgestones gave me no confidence in corners compared to Pirelli and where much noisier than pirelli, I nearly purchased new pirelli ATR but the Bob Jane tyre guy said consider the General AT2, since I was looking to get 5 new tyres going from 265/65/17 to 265/70/17 I researched tyres thoroughly from mainly USA/Canadian websites as they sell more.
